Synopsis. On Halloween night, Robert "Bud" Fontaine, Jr. and his friends break a window at an abandoned house, then run in fright after a stern-looking man glares at them from another window. Bud rushes home to tell his father Bob, an orange farmer, what has happened.

Young Bob (Billy Gray) lives in beautiful orange grove country. One day, Bob goes to mess around at the abandoned house next door, but is confroned by a miserable loner at the door. Bob tells dad (George Murphy), who figures Dr. Mahler has moved back in, but they find out this guy calls himself Matlock (Kurt Kasznar).
