18 dic 2006 · Kenny Davern, a clarinetist and soprano saxophonist who became an acclaimed torchbearer of traditional jazz and swing, died Tuesday at his home in Sandia Park, N.M., after a heart attack.
Self-taught, Davern was given an old Albert system clarinet when he was 11. Three years later he acquired a more convential Boehm system instrument. He began playing professionally when he was 16 and three months after he left high school auditioned for the big band led by Ralph Flanagan.

Kenny and his lifelong friend, Dick Wellstood, recorded and performed together including Dick's 1981 Chiaroscuro All Star album. Learning the clarinet, he focused on Dixieland Jazz, like his hero Pee Wee, but soon branched into traditional and modern jazz.
