Helmut Heinrich Waldemar Schmidt (* 23. Dezember 1918 in Hamburg; † 10. November 2015 ebenda) war ein deutscher Politiker der SPD. Von 1974 bis 1982 war er als Regierungschef einer sozialliberalen Koalition nach dem Rücktritt Willy Brandts der fünfte Bundeskanzler der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
