Arthur Elphinstone, 6th Lord Balmerino and 5th Lord Cupar (1688 – 18 August 1746) was a Scottish nobleman and Jacobite, or supporter of the claim of the exiled House of Stuart to the British throne.

Lord Balmerino and Lord Kilmarnock were aristocratic Jacobite officers taken prisoner after Culloden and found guilty of high treason. Public executions provided a final opportunity for the condemned to display either penitence or defiance in their last address to the watching crowds.
30 apr 2022 · He was Colonel of the 2nd troop of Horse Guards. He succeeded to the title of 5th Lord Coupar [S., 1607] on 5 January 1746. He succeeded to the title of 6th Lord Balmerinoch [S., 1606] on 5 January 1746. He fought in the Battle of Culloden on 16 April 1746, where he was taken prisoner.

Arthur Elphinstone Balmerino, 6th Baron (ĕl´fĬnstən, băl´mĕr´Ĭnō), 1688–1746, Scottish nobleman. He resigned a command in the English army to join the Jacobite rising of 1715, escaping after its suppression to France. He returned and took part in the 1745 rising, was captured at the battle of Culloden, and was executed.
