  1. Hugh Robert Wilson (January 29, 1885 – December 29, 1946) was a member of the United States Foreign Service who headed the United States mission to Switzerland for ten years beginning in 1927. He became Assistant Secretary of State in 1937 [1] and served for several months in 1938 as Ambassador to Germany .

Departments of Biology, Psychology, Mathematics, and Computer Science. 1985-2000: Professor, Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Neurobiology & Biopsychology, University of Chicago. Fellow, Optical Society of America.

  3. Research Focus. Four major research strategies are employed in systems neuroscience: single unit physiology, psychophysics, human brain imaging, and neural modeling. My research combines the latter three of these techniques to elucidate visual system function.

  4. In computational neuroscience, the WilsonCowan model describes the dynamics of interactions between populations of very simple excitatory and inhibitory model neurons. It was developed by Hugh R. Wilson and Jack D. Cowan [1] [2] and extensions of the model have been widely used in modeling neuronal populations.

Coupled nonlinear differential equations are derived for the dynamics of spatially localized populations containing both excitatory and inhibitory model neurons.
