John Eric Wilson. Mary Sue Wilson Coleman (born October 2, 1943) is an American chemist and academic administrator who served as the 13th president of the University of Michigan from 2002 to 2014, interim president of the University of Michigan in 2022, and the 18th president of the University of Iowa from 1995 to 2002.
Mary Sue Coleman, Ph.D., served as the President of the University of Michigan from 2002 to 2014. She was the first woman in U-M history to hold this leadership position. During her tenure, she was named one of Time magazine’s “10 best college presidents.”
Mary Sue Coleman is the former president of the Association of American Universities, which encompasses 62 leading public and private research universities in the United States and Canada, and president emerita of the University of Michigan, where she served as the 13th president from August 2002 to June 2014.
