Biografia. Era il figlio più giovane di James Hamilton, II conte di Arran, e di sua moglie Margaret Douglas. Nel 1553 ricevette le terre dell'abbazia di Paisley. Nel 1568 assistette Maria, regina di Scozia, nella fuga dal castello di Loch Leven, poi combatté per lei nella battaglia di Langside .
Claud Hamilton, 1st Lord Paisley (3 June 1546 – 3 May 1621) was a Scottish nobleman who fought at the Battle of Langside in 1568 for Mary, Queen of Scots. He is the ancestor of the earls, marquesses and dukes of Abercorn.
Claud Hamilton, 1st Lord Paisley (1543–1621) was a Scottish politician. The 1st Earl of Abercorn was the 1st Lord's eldest son. He predeceased his father. James Hamilton, 2nd Lord Paisley was already 2nd Earl of Abercorn.
