Francis Stewart V conte di Bothwell (dicembre 1562 circa – novembre 1612) fu commandatario dell'Abbazia di Kelso e del Priorato di Coldingham, fece parte del Consiglio privato e fu Lord Gran Ammiraglio di Scozia.
Francis Stewart is depicted as a major character in the plays Jamie the Saxt (1936) by Robert McLellan and The Burning (1971) by Stewart Conn. Both plays deal with the period of his conflict, as outlaw and rebel, with King James VI in the early 1590s.
Francis Stewart Hepburn, 5th earl of Bothwell , was a nephew of the 4th earl. By his dissolute and proud behaviour, he caused King James VI of Scotland (afterward James I of Great Britain) to gradually consider him a rival and a threat to the Scottish crown and was made an outlaw.
