Nel 1712 la famiglia ebbe il titolo ereditario di principi dell'Impero. Nel 1809 ottenne un voto alla dieta. Nel 1807 i due principi (il principe Federico aveva ceduto Pyrmont al fratello Giorgio) aderirono alla Lega Renana. Nel 1817 Waldeck e Pyrmont erano nuovamente riuniti sotto una sola persona.
