William Z. Foster (February 25, 1881 – September 1, 1961) was a radical American labor organizer and Communist politician, whose career included serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party USA from 1945 to 1957.
William Z. Foster was an American labour agitator and Communist Party leader who ran for the presidency in 1924, 1928, and 1932. A militant union organizer from 1894, Foster joined the Industrial Workers of the World (1909), which aimed at achieving socialism through industry-wide labour.
