23 ott 2020 · Esico von Ballenstedt is the first named member of the Ascanier family. He appears nine times in contemporary documents between 1036 and 1059, however always only as Graf (comes Hesicho). Only in the 13th century is he called Esicus de Ballenstide by the Annalista Saxo.
Esico (auch Esiko oder Esichos; * um 990 / 1000; † nach 1059, vermutlich 1060) war Graf im Schwaben-, Harz- und Hardagau. Er ist der früheste namentlich bekannte Vorfahre der Askanier .
Essi ebbero due figli: Ottone il Ricco (1070 circa - 1123), conte di Ballenstedt [1]; Sigfrido (1075 circa - 1113), conte di Weimar-Orlamünde, conte palatino del Reno dal 1095-1097 [1]. Adalberto fu l'erede di estesi possedimenti e, grazie ad essi, divenne uno dei principali nobili sassoni.
