His Majesty King David Kalākaua was named David Laʻamea Kamananakapu Mahinulani Naloiaehuokalani Lumialani Kalākaua and was born on November 16, 1836. His father was the High Chief Kapaʻakea from the powerful Royal House of Keawe of Hawaiʻi (Kalaninuiʻiamamao).
