Biologo, genetista, tra i padri fondatori della sintesi moderna in biologia evoluzionista, Theodosius Dobzhansky è ricordato principalmente per il prezioso contributo che le sue ricerche hanno apportato alla comprensione dei meccanismi dell’evoluzione biologica.
Si occupa prevalentemente di problemi di dinamica delle popolazioni e di genetica evoluzionistica, a cui ha dedicato molte delle sue numerosissime pubblicazioni. È autore di un fondamentale libro di sintesi sui problemi dell'evoluzione, considerati dal punto di vista della genetica: Genetics and the Origin of Species, New York 1937 (2 a ed. 1941).
