Botanico e fitogeografo, nato a Hannover nell'aprile 1814, morto nel maggio 1879 a Gottinga, nella cui università insegnò dal 1841. Viaggiò molto attraverso l'Europa e nell'estate del 1839 visitò alcune regioni della Rumelia e della Bitinia.

August Grisebach (1814-1879) was a German botanist and professor born in Hanover. He studied medicine and botany in Göttingen and Berlin, where he finished a doctorate in 1836. Grisebach was later professor for natural history at the University of Göttingen and director of the botanical garden there.
