Émile Peynaud (29 June 1912 – 18 July 2004) was a French oenologist and researcher who has been credited with revolutionizing winemaking in the latter half of the 20th century, and has been called "the forefather of modern oenology".

Emile Peynaud, the legendary French enologist who helped modernize Bordeaux and improve the quality of wines worldwide, died July 18, at the age of 92, after suffering from Parkinson's disease for several years. He was buried today in a church outside Bordeaux.
20 lug 2004 · Professor Emile Peynaud, the forefather of modern oenology and a former Decanter Man of the Year, has died aged 92. Over a career spanning 46 years, Peynaud wrote nearly 300 scientific articles as well as books on tasting and oenology. He played a key role in influencing winemaking practices in Bordeaux for several decades.
