BALEN, Hendrik van. Marguerite Devigne. Pittore, nacque ad Anversa nel 1575 e ivi morì il 17 luglio 1632. Secondo il van Mander sarebbe stato allievo di Adam van Noort. Nel 1592 era maestro e nel 1609-10 decano della gilda dei pittori. Andò a Roma, e al ritorno ad Anversa fece parte della Confrérie des Romanistes, di cui fu anche decano nel 1613.
Balen, Hendrick van. Antwerp, 1575, 1632. He received his training from Adam van Noort and Martin de Vos. In 1592–1593, he entered the Guild of Saint Luke as a master in the city of Antwerp. Shortly afterwards, he travelled to Italy where he remained until 1600–1602, visiting Rome and Venice.

Hendrick van Balen or Hendrick van Balen I was a Flemish Baroque painter and stained glass designer. Hendrick van Balen specialised in small cabinet pictures often painted on a copper support. His favourite themes were mythological and allegorical scenes and, to a lesser extent, religious subjects.

Hendrick van Balen. 1575–1632. Collaborator. Painter. Hendrick van Balen was born in 1575 to the merchant Willem van Balen and Mechtelt van Aelten. A resident of Antwerp for most of his life, he became a master (Freimeister) in the city’s Guild of St. Luke (1592/3) before embarking on a trip to Italy.
