The Avesta ( / əˈvɛstə /) is the primary collection of religious texts of Zoroastrianism, composed in the Avestan language. [1] The Avesta texts fall into several different categories, arranged either by dialect, or by usage.
Caratteristiche. Lo zoroastrismo è una religione monoteista. Il suo testo sacro è l' Avestā, che raccoglie diversi contributi di varia origine accumulatisi lungo i secoli. Di esso solamente le gāthā (i canti religiosi) sono, secondo gli studiosi, direttamente attribuibili al profeta Zarathustra .

L' Avestā è il complesso dei testi religiosi dello zoroastrismo (v.). Il nome è riduzione del pahlavico apastāk, il cui significato dev'essere stato quello di "ciò che è posto, ciò che è stabilito", quindi "testo fondamentale".
