Caroline Records is a record label originally founded in 1973. Initially founded in the United Kingdom to showcase British progressive rock groups, the label ceased releasing titles in 1976, and then re-emerged in the United States in 1986.
Profile: Beginning as a European mid-price offshoot of Virgin from 1973 to 1976, Caroline Records was reborn in 1983 as a U.S. distributor and (in 1986) pseudo-indie label operated by Virgin/EMI until 2011. In 2013 the brand was relaunched by Universal Music via the Capitol Music Group.
The band went through a number of line-up changes before recruiting bassist Jill Emery and drummer Caroline Rue in early 1990. The band signed to the independent label Caroline Records and its European subsidiary City Slang, and released its debut studio album, Pretty on the Inside, in August 1991.
