Schiedam ( Dutch pronunciation: [sxiˈdɑm] ⓘ) is a city and municipality in the west of the Netherlands. It is located in the Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area, west of Rotterdam, east of Vlaardingen, and south of Delft. In the south the city is connected with the village of Pernis by the Beneluxtunnel.
Schiedam (uitspraak ⓘ) is een stad en gemeente in de Nederlandse provincie Zuid-Holland. Het gemeentebestuur neemt deel aan de gemeenschappelijke regeling Metropoolregio Rotterdam-Den Haag. Schiedam is gelegen tussen Rotterdam en Vlaardingen, oorspronkelijk aan de Schie en later ook aan de Nieuwe Maas.
Liduina di Schiedam, nota anche come Santa Liduina, Santa Lidina, Santa Lidwina, Santa Ludwina o Santa Liedewij (Schiedam, 18 marzo 1380 – Schiedam, 14 aprile 1433), è stata una mistica olandese. Il suo culto come santa è stato confermato nel 1890 da papa Leone XIII ed è una delle sante olandesi più venerate.

She is the patroness saint of the town of Schiedam, of chronic pain, and of ice skating .
Schiedam è un porto marittimo di grande importanza; parte del recente ingrandimento del porto di Rotterdam si trova nel territorio di questo comune e l'incremento della popolazione in gran parte va spiegato con l'immigrazione di operai da Rotterdam che preferiscono abitare vicino al posto del lavoro.
