It is an uninhabited island located in the county of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, about 16 km (9.9 mi) south of Dublin and 3 km (1.9 mi) south of Dún Laoghaire harbour. An important site of pilgrimage for centuries, it has been known as "St Begnet's Isle" since records began. The earliest reference to 'Dalkey Island' is from c. 1782.

Lying just off the south Dublin coast near the villages of Dalkey and Killiney, the island is small and uninhabited but has an ancient history that’s full of stories.

Dalkey Island (Gaelic: Deilginis) is an uninhabited rocky island less than 300 kilometers offshore from the village of Dalkey. Once inhabited, the island still boasts a number of archaeological remains, including ruined houses, an old church and the Martello tower.
County Dublin. Dalkey Island's main sight is St Begnet's Holy Well, but it's also a popular spot for fishing, with shoals of pollock, mackerel and coalfish feeding in its waters. It's also a lovely spot to spend a couple of hours with a picnic – but be sure to take everything off the island with you when you leave.
