California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), also known in athletics as Long Beach State University (LBSU), is a public research university in Long Beach, California. The 322-acre campus is the second largest in the California State University system (CSU).

CSULB History. CSULB Through the Years. Welcome to Cal State Long Beach's history page. On September 28, 1949, what was then-known as Los Angeles-Orange County State College began its first day of classes. One hundred and sixty students were enrolled for the first semester with thirteen full-time faculty.
