Official website. legacyrecordings .com. Legacy Recordings is an American record label that is a division of Sony Music. Formed in 1990 after Sony's acquisition of CBS Records, Legacy originally handled the archives of Sony Music-owned labels Columbia Records and Epic Records.
Legacy is Sony Music Entertainment's catalog and reissue label. The label was introduced by Columbia Records in 1960 for historical recordings. In 1990, CBS Records relaunched Legacy for reissues and repackaged releases. It has since been used by CBS's successors.
The box set contains fifty-two albums on seventy CDs spanning Davis' career on Columbia Records from 1949 to 1989. All albums feature their original tracklists, while some use various deluxe reissue tracklists when available. A few albums received never-before-released bonus tracks.
The Byrds is currently out of print, but a later revised box set, titled There Is a Season, was released on September 26, 2006, by Columbia/Legacy. While this second box set is meant to replace The Byrds , each set contains some tracks that the other does not.
