Biography. Radu cel Mare, of the house of Drăculești, was the nephew of the infamous "Vlad, the Impaler," who had also been a Duke ("Voivode") ruler of the Balkan province of Wallachia. He was born in 1467 as the son of Vlad IV (Basarab) of Wallachia, aka Vlad IV Călugărul, and his wife, Unknown Rada-Samaranda .
