Cricket: Substitutions in cricket are only allowed when an umpire rules that a player is too ill or too injured to continue to play. As a result, substitutions are extremely rare in cricket and most tournaments do not require teams to dress a substitute player for a match, although teams may still choose to do so.
If a fielder is injured or becomes ill during a match, a substitute is allowed to field instead of the aforementioned fielder, but the substitute cannot bowl or act as a captain, except in the case of concussion substitutes in international cricket.
