1958: United Artists Records, a subsidiary of the United Artists film studio, was founded by movie producer Max E. Youngstein initially to distribute records of its own soundtracks. It soon branched out into recording music of a number of different genres.
In 1957, UA created United Artists Records Corporation and United Artists Music Corporation after an unsuccessful attempt to buy a record company. In 1968, UA Records merged with Liberty Records, along with its many subsidiary labels such as Imperial Records and Dolton Records.
