The song first appeared, in two different versions, a slow-pace and a fast-pace, on Dylan's fourteenth studio album Planet Waves. A demo version of the song, recorded in New York City in June 1973, was included on Dylan's 1985 compilation Biograph.

  6. Originally released by Alphaville as a single in 1984, "Forever Young" was available in both its original mix and in a dance version, entitled the "Special Dance Mix". Over the years, the band has released several remixes and demo versions of the song.

  7. The album was Dylan's first to hit #1 in America. Rod Stewart released his own song called "Forever Young" in 1988, which is also a message from a parent to a child. Before releasing the song, Stewart and Dylan struck a deal granting Dylan half the publishing.
