Death. Rumors surround Thunders' death at the Inn on St. Peter hotel (formerly known as St. Peter Guest House) in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 23, 1991. Thunders apparently died of drug-related causes, but it has been speculated that it was the result of foul play.
7 nov 2020 · Thunders died under extremely mysterious circumstances. As Loudwire reports, on April 23, 1991, he was found in a "ransacked" New Orleans building, with his body twisted and a "significant" — yet arguably not fatal — amount of drugs in his system.

23 apr 2021 · That was Johnny Thunders–born John Anthony Genzale– who overdosed and died 30 years ago April 23, at 38. The guitarist-songwriter was a key cog in the glam-rock/punk progenitors the New York Dolls and, following the the band’s smashup at the end of 1976, he led Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers and then became a solo artist.

Although other theories have come in since, thanks to Dee Dee Ramone saying, “they told me Johnny had gotten mixed up with some bastards,” the official cause of death was drug-related causes.
