Jewel Fay "Sammi" Smith (August 5, 1943 – February 12, 2005) was an American country music singer and songwriter. She is best known for her 1971 crossover hit "Help Me Make It Through the Night", which was written by Kris Kristofferson. She became one of the few women in the outlaw country movement during the 1970s.
Grammy winner Sammi Smith was a leading country female vocalist during the 1970s. Her biggest hit was the million-selling definitive version of Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make it Through the Night" which earned her the Grammy for "Best Country Vocalist Performance - Female" and "Single of the Year" from the Country Music Association in 1971.
