Briere e vicino alla costa, la città di Pontchâteau si trova in un luogo di passaggio, su un'ansa del Brivet, l'ultimo affluente della riva destra della Loira. Il ponte che si estende, gallo-romana o medievale, con un ponte di legno è stato sostituito nel 1877 da un ponte di pietra di un unico arco. Il castello fu costruito intorno al 1070.

Briere and close to the coast, the city of Pontchâteau is located in a site of passage, on a bend of Brivet, the last tributary of the right bank of the Loire. The bridge which spans it, Gallo-Roman or medieval with a wooden deck was replaced in 1877 by a stone bridge of a single arch.
