Athens is a consolidated city-county and college town in the U.S. state of Georgia. Downtown Athens lies about 70 miles (110 km) northeast of downtown Atlanta. Athens and Clarke County combined to form a unified government in 1990. According to the 2020 U.S. census, Athens–Clarke County had a population of 96,124.
