Il melodic hardcore punk (o in italiano hardcore melodico) è un sottogenere dell'hardcore punk che unisce la velocità e la potenza di quest'ultimo a una maggiore dose di melodia, e quindi l'introduzione di sonorità tipicamente pop punk.
È un genere musicale ibrido che ha preso come ispirazione il movimento 2 tone ska di fine anni settanta e inizio degli anni ottanta, fondendolo con la velocità e l'aggressività del punk rock e dell'hardcore punk.

Original development
The earliest melodic hardcore emerged from the Californian hardcore punk scene by the early 1980s. This includes Descendents, who formed in 1978. Their earliest work was simple, pop-influenced punk rock, but they went on to mix this melodic approach with hardcore, inspiring both melodic hardcore and pop punk groups.
