History and Heritage of Trentham. Trentham's recorded history stretches back to AD680 and the founding of a nunnery by St Werburgh. It has an entry in the Domesday Book in 1087 and an Augustinian Priory was built on the site of the nunnery in the 1100s.
The fabulous, restored Trentham Gardens, at the heart of the estate, attracted over 800k visitors in 2022, making us one of the most visited gardens in the UK and the fifth most visited paid for attraction in the 2021 Visit England survey.
