Nel 1936 sposa la ballerina Caitlin MacNamara, da cui ebbe tre figli (tra cui la scrittrice Aeronwy Thomas) e con cui si trasferì a Laugharne, a occidente di Swansea, in una casa sul mare chiamata Boathouse.

Aeronwy Bryn Thomas-Ellis (3 March 1943 – 27 July 2009) was the second child of the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Aeronwy Thomas in Torino, Italy, 2006. Born in London, where her parents lived at the time, she was named for the River Aeron. In 1949, the family moved to the Boat House, Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
