University College, Oxford. Christianity portal. Philip Twysden (1713–1752), was an Anglican clergyman who served in the Church of Ireland as Lord Bishop of Raphoe from 1747 to 1752. The circumstances of his death later became the subject of scandalous rumour.
Philip Twysden: Nominated on 28 February 1746 and consecrated on 29 March 1747. Died in office on 2 November 1752, allegedly shot while committing a robbery of a stagecoach near London. Biografia. Era il figlio di George Villiers, IV conte di Jersey, e di sua moglie, Frances Twisden, figlia del Reverendo Philip Twisden, vescovo di Raphoe. Frequentò la Harrow School e al St John's College di Cambridge. È stato un Gentleman of the Bedchamber del Principe di Galles nel 1795. [1]
She was born Frances Twysden, in London, second and posthumous daughter of The Rt Rev. Dr Philip Twysden (c. 1714–1752), Church of Ireland Bishop of Raphoe (1746–1752) and his second wife Frances Carter (later wife of General James Johnston), daughter of Thomas Carter of Castlemartin, Master of the Rolls in Ireland.

Philip Twysden was born circa 1714 to William Twysden and Jane Twisden. He was Bishop of Raphoe in the Church of Ireland. He was married twice: firstly to Mary Purcell and secondly to Frances Carter. He died in 1752, allegedly while attempting to rob a stagecoach.
