Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves. The Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves was based on the enactment Reichsgesetzblatt I S. 849 of 3 June 1940. The last officially announced number for the Oak Leaves was 843. Higher numbers are unofficial and therefore denoted in brackets.
The Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds was the next higher grade of the Knight’s Cross above the Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves and Swords. It was the highest award presented to more than one person in the Third Reich, and it was reserved for the most highly decorated and heroic figures in the German Wehrmacht.
The Knight’s Cross with Golden Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds was the highest single grade of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross and was awarded only once during WWII – an exception to the rule for this award which was only to be awarded 12 times once WWII ended.
