The Phutthayotfa Chulalok-class frigates are two of forty-six Knox-class frigates originally laid down for the United States Navy as ocean escorts (formerly called destroyer escorts), but were all redesignated as frigates on 30 June 1975, in the USN 1975 ship reclassification and their hull designation changed from DE to FF.

Rama I. Phra Bat Somdet Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok Maharat ( Thai: พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช, 20 March 1737 – 7 September 1809), personal name Thongduang ( ทองด้วง ), also known as Rama I, was the founder of the Rattanakosin Kingdom and the first monarch of the reigning Chakri dynasty of Siam (now Thailand ).

Prince Arunotai was the son of King Phutthayotfa Chulalok and his concubine Nuiyai. He was later appointed the Kromma Muen Sakdiphonlasep and became acquitted with his half-nephew Kromma Muen Chetsadabodin during the wars with Burma.
