Lo screamo (anche skramz) è un sottogenere del punk evolutosi in prevalenza a partire dall'hardcore punk nei primi anni novanta. Inizialmente il termine fu applicato ad un genere derivato dell'emo sviluppatosi a San Diego nel 1991, caratterizzato da tracce brevi, caotiche e dissonanti.

The term "screamo" was initially applied to a more aggressive offshoot of emo that developed in San Diego in the early 1990s, which used usually short songs that grafted "spastic intensity to willfully experimental dissonance and dynamics." [1] .
