Il nome del dipartimento deriva dalla foresta di Yveline, di cui si è salvata dalla deforestazione solo la parte del massiccio di Rambouillet .
Les Yvelines ( /iv.lin/ ou /i.və.lin/ Note 1) est un département français situé à l'ouest de Paris, dans sa grande couronne, en région Île-de-France. Il s'étend sur 2 284 km2 et compte 259 communes. Avec 1 456 365 habitants (2021), le département est le plus peuplé de la grande couronne et le huitième de France.

Situation
Yvelines is bordered by the departments of Val-d'Oise on the north, Hauts-de-Seine on the east, Essonne on the southeast, Eure-et-Loir on the southwest and Eureon the west.
