ISO 3166-1:2020 defines the alpha-2, alpha-3 and numeric codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions. It also provides a database of country names and code elements, updated by ISO 3166/MA.
This standard specifies basic guidelines for the implementation and maintenance of country codes, intended for use in any application requiring the expression of current country names in coded form. It is the fourth edition of ISO 3166-1, published in 2020, and replaces the previous edition of 2013.
