Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat nasce a Mit Abu al-Kum (Egitto) il 25 dicembre 1918. A soli sette anni si trasferisce al Cairo: studia presso la Regia accademia militare e consegue il diploma nel 1938. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale viene imprigionato dalle truppe inglesi.
