Skopje is a medium city at the European level. Being the capital and largest city of North Macedonia, Skopje concentrates a large share of the national economy. The Skopje Statistical Region, which encompasses the City of Skopje and some neighbouring municipalities, produces 45.5% of the Macedonian GDP.

The Skopje Statistical Region ( Macedonian: Скопски Регион; Albanian: Rajoni i Shkupit) is one of eight Statistical regions of North Macedonia. Skopje, located in the north of the country, borders Kosovo to the north. Internally, it borders the Vardar, Polog, Northeastern, Eastern, and Southwestern statistical regions.

It constitutes approximately the northern third of the larger geographical region of Macedonia. Skopje, the capital and largest city, is home to a quarter of the country's 1.83 million people population.
The history of Skopje, North Macedonia, goes back to at least 4000; remains of Neolithic settlements have been found within the old Kale Fortress that overlooks the modern city centre. The settlement appears to have been founded around then by the Paionians, a people that inhabited the region.
Dračevo ( Macedonian: Драчево) is a suburb in the municipality of Kisela Voda, North Macedonia. It is a suburb of Skopje and one of the first major settlements in that region and has a fully developed socio-economical life. It is located 10 km south-east from the center of the city of Skopje.
