Before the series
Hank was born in the Bronx and his parents moved to Levittown, New York on Long Island to raise him. In his pursuit to become a writer, he moved to New York City; and eventually, his talent and gift were noticed by the literary community. Hank's fatal attraction to beautiful women is evident from the first episode, as well as his alcoholic tendencies and the negative affect his reckless lifestyle has on his daughter Becca. His love for his former wife and his daughter are evident, but often overridden by temptation. His rash decisions catch up with him when he impulsively sleeps with Mia, the 16-year-old daughter of Bill, his wife's current fiancee.
In the almost three year gap between seasons four and five, Moody had been in a relationship with Carrie. Not wanting their relationship to turn into a marriage, Hank breaks up with Carrie. After this, Hank contacts Runkle, asking to be put on a flight to Los Angeles to avoid any more complications with Carrie, who he shares an apartment with. While boarding the flight to Los Angeles, Hank meets Kali. During the flight, Hank and Kali end up having sex in the bathroom.

The cast are excellent, especially David Duchovny as the seedy Hank Moody, a man whose mid-life crisis is on display for all to see, from his Porsche to his constant bed-hopping. The script is sharp and the whole show exudes quality.
