The foggy-gothic atmosphere, romanticized performances, and serious tone are instantly engrossing. Unfortunately, the story, regarding an alien from Planet X who might be on Earth to enslave humans (or make friends with them), loses energy quickly; it becomes a dull, convoluted affair that never gets to its narrative point.
