  1. 25 feb 2023 · Princess Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was born on 19 May 1744, the eighth child and youngest daughter of Duke Charles Louis Frederick of Mecklenburg (1708–1752) and his wife Princess Elizabeth Albertina of Saxe-Hildburghausen (1713–1761).

Born in Strelitz, in northern Germany, he undertook a grand tour in 1726, travelling to Italy and France, before returning to the estate and castle of Mirow, which he had inherited from his father.
