The HGM program was established in 1989 for students who have a measured IQ of 145+ and is designed to provide an academically challenging, college preparatory program. The approximately 300 students in grades 9-12 study a stringent, rigorous curriculum commensurate with the most demanding of public or private schools in the country.
North Hollywood High School has a long tradition of musical excellence, counting numerous famed musicians including conductor Michael Tilson-Thomas of the San Francisco Symphony, and composer John Williams among its many distinguished alumni. This tradition of excellence continues today.
North Hollywood High School, along with the Los Angeles Unified School District, has developed a Parent and Family Engagement Policy and North Hollywood has come up with a School-Parent Compact for the 2023-24 school year. Paper copies will be available in the Main office. One of the greatest aspects of high school life is being part of a club.
The class meets daily at 7:30 a.m., focusing on big band and jazz combo repertoire. The course covers various jazz styles, including blues, swing, Latin jazz, and funk, and teaches basic improvisation techniques to students. The group performs several times throughout the year at school concerts, events, music festivals, and community events.
Caption 2. As many know, North Hollywood High School has been undergoing a complete renovation. On campus, construction has been going. It is estimated that the completion of this new modernized school will be in the Spring of 2026. With a budget of roughly three hundred million dollars, this is the most significant modernization project in LAUSD.
