Era figlio di Vittorio I di Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym, principe di Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym dal 1727 al 1772, e della prima moglie Carlotta Luisa di Isenburg-Birstein.
