Saint Mary’s College of California is one of the oldest colleges in the West. Founded in 1863 by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese as a college for men, the school was originally located in San Francisco, operating for several years under Archdiocesan direction. In 1868, the De La Salle Christian Brothers assumed direction of the school.
Founded by the local archbishop, Saint Mary’s College of California is a Catholic liberal arts college in the Bay Area administered by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Saint Mary’s is home to schools of Economics, Liberal Arts, and Science conferring bachelor’s degrees in 43 academic majors.
