Died. 31 May 2022 (aged 62) Kelly Joe Phelps (born in Sumner, Washington, on 5 October 1959; died 31 May 2022) was an American musician and songwriter. His music was characterized as a mixture of delta blues and jazz. Phelps grew up in a blue-collar and farming town.

By the early '90s, Phelps had become enamored of blues greats like Mississippi Fred McDowell and Robert Pete Williams and converted himself into a blues guitarist, playing his acoustic guitar laid flat on his lap with a heavy slide bar. His solo debut, Lead Me On, was released by Portland indie Burnside Records in 1994.
