Remco de Maaijer werd in 1969 geboren in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, bracht zijn jeugd door in Rotterdam en kwam via Duivendrecht uiteindelijk terecht in de Flevopolder. Hij studeerde Assyriologie (de wetenschappelijke studie van het oude Mesopotamië) en deed beroepsmatig ruime ervaring op als adviseur, directeur en bestuurder in de volkshuisvesting, het lokale bestuur, de zorg en de wetenschap.
