Arthur Rankin (1816 – March 13, 1893) was a surveyor, entrepreneur, militia officer, and political figure in Canada West. Rankin was born in Montreal in 1816, the son of Irish immigrants. He ran away from home at the age of 15, and became a cabin boy on a New York-to-London packet boat. [1]
During World War II, he rejoined the Marine Corps. One of his last film roles was a photographer in the 1942 film, "Remember the Day." Following an extended illness, he died of a cerebral hemorrhage. He married twice. With his second wife, Marian Mansfield, an actress, two sons were born. His son, Arthur Rankin, Jr., became a successful actor.
